Combining speed, strategy and precision, wheelchair tennis is a dynamic sport that invites the yellow ball enthusiasts on court, with or without physical limitations.

Whether played individually or in doubles, wheelchair tennis is a sport open to most people with physical disabilities. The rules are the same as those of regular tennis, except that it is possible to let the ball bounce twice before hitting it.

Wheelchair tennis has two classifications: open and “quad”.
In the open category, the athlete must have a permanent motor disability resulting in a significant loss of use of one or both lower limbs.
In the “quad” category, the athlete must have a permanent physical disability resulting in significant loss of both lower limbs and impairment of at least one upper limb. This category is mixed and allows for special adaptations (racket tied to the hand, electric wheelchair, etc.).
Wheelchair tennis is played on a regular tennis court and the same rules as regular tennis apply, with the following two main exceptions:
The ball can bounce twice before being hit (the second bounce can be outside the court);
The wheelchair is an integral part of the body, so if the ball touches the wheelchair or the body, it is a foul.

In Quebec, several wheelchair tennis tournaments are organized each year.
Athletes are separated into divisions according to their skill level. At the end of the season, a provincial final is held each year, bringing together the various athletes from across Quebec.
Players from across the province, regardless of their level or experience, can join these clubs year-round to participate in training sessions.
Elite athletes can also benefit from the Team Quebec program, which offers professional coaching, camps and competitions outside the province.
During the provincial league, athletes compete monthly from spring to summer in singles and doubles on Quebec courts (in Montreal and Repentigny).
The league format includes 3 tournaments: in May, June and July of each year.
The Canadian Wheelchair Tennis Championships annually welcome the best athletes in the sport, competing in singles and doubles. The last Canadian Wheelchair Tennis Championships- Birmingham National Wheelchair Tennis Championships – will take place in November 2026, in Vancouver (BC).
With Premier Échange training camps, come and learn or improve your game alongside us on the wheelchair tennis court!
Whether you are a beginner or intermediate, this camp is made for you! Come share your passion in a friendly and motivating atmosphere.
