Financial support

Tailored Support for Athletes

The government provides financial assistance and services to athletes officially identified in Québec to help guide them on their path to national teams and enable them to compete with the best athletes in the world. Identified athletes are classified into four levels, based on sport-specific criteria. These can be found in the Documents section and on each sport’s page: “Excellence”, “Elite”, “Next Generation” and “Development”.

Scholarships for identified athletes

Identified athletes may also be eligible for scholarships offered by SportsQuébec and other organizations to help support their journey and promote their development.

Understanding identified athletes categories

Athletes competing at the highest level—for example, those holding “Senior” or “Development” carding from Sport Canada, or members of senior national teams.

Athletes performing at a high provincial level—for example, members of the “Team Québec Open” who have the potential to advance to first- or second-tier Canadian national teams.

Athletes performing below the “Elite” level but enrolled in a significant provincial development program—for example, members of a Québec team at this stage of progression.

The entry level within the high-performance pathway: athletes identified by their federation according to the development model, often participating in sport-study programs or actively progressing through the system.
